Lord Balarama Appearance Day

The auspicious appearance day of Lord Balarama, the elder brother of Lord Krishna, is celebrated on the full-moon day of Sravana month (August). Lord Balarama appeared as the son of Rohini and Vasudeva. He is also known as Baladeva and Sankarsana. He gives us the required spiritual strength to cross over the hurdles in our journey of self-realization. Devotees fast till noon and pray to Lord Balarama to bestow the spiritual strength needed to practice spiritual life.

In Sri Sri Krishna Balaram Temple – Bon Accueil, there are grand celebrations to mark this auspicious day. Sri Sri Krishna Balaram are adorned with exquisite clothing and ornaments in a grand ensemble of lovely flower arrangements.

The celebrations start at 11 a.m and end at around 3.30 p.m with full Prasad served to everyone.

  • At 11 a.m, Lord Balarama receives a splendid abhisheka in His form of Giriraj – He is bathed with panchamrita (milk, yoghurt, ghee, honey, and water). Varieties of flowers are showered, concluding the abhisheka ceremony
  • Abhishek is followed by Kirtan till 12.30 p.m
  • Raj Bhoga Arati at 12.30 p.m
  • At 1 p.m, lectures will be given where the pastimes of Lord Balaram are beautifully described
  • At 2 p.m, Kirtan will start and will continue till 3.30 p.m
  • Prasad is then served to everyone at 3.30 p.m
  • Altar doors remain open till 4.30 p.m
  • At 4.30 p.m, altar doors are closed and re-open at 6.30 p.m for Sandhya Arati – Sri Sri Krishna Balaram wear a second new outfit
  • Sweets (maha prasad) and Varuni juice are served to everyone at 7 p.m
  • Kirtan follows
  • Altar doors remain open till 8.45 p.m
